Healthy feline nutrition is easily managed with a balanced diet. Always talk to your veterinarian if you have any concerns about your cat’s health or nutrition.

Adding water to wet cat food

Water is probably the most important element of a feline diet. Since cats are smaller than dogs and humans, they can become dehydrated much more quickly than them. Many pet owners provide their cats with moist food that contains water as a way to add water to their cat’s diet. Automatic waters are a great way to make sure your cat has fresh drinking water available at all times.

Protein cat food

Protein – When it comes to cat nutrition, nothing is more beneficial than protein; it’s used build muscle, repair tissues and supply all sorts of energy. Amino acids are what make proteins so vital. Look for cat foods that provide meats with protein and not meat substitute.  While your dog may be able to function perfectly fine on a vegetarian diet, a cat is carnivorous and cannot since their bodies do not naturally produce as many amino acids.

Essential minerals for cats

Minerals – Proper health cannot be maintained without adequate minerals since they provide so many benefits to cats such as strengthening their bones. Most cat foods are fortified with minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, iron, copper, manganese, zinc, iodine and selenium.

Do cats need vitamins

Vitamins – Don’t forget about providing vitamins to your cat’s diet; they play a crucial role in numerous bodily functions. Some vitamins are stored in the body and some are excreted through the urine. Therefore, some are needed in higher amounts than others. Most cat food is also fortified with vitamins.
